ASIAN
EDUCATORS ALLIANCE 2007 NATIONAL CONFERENCE
United
under the theme "Building Bridges: Connecting Asian/Pacific Islander Educators",
Asian Educator Alliance New York (AsEANY), in conjunction with the
Asian Educators Alliance (AsEA), welcomes you you to the first Asian
Educators Alliance National Conference held outside of California.
This conference inaugurates
a new opportunity for Asian/Pacific Islander (API) educators to meet
and network, and presents a new dimension in sharing our diverse
regional issues, concerns,
and successes with our API colleagues.
The Asian Educators Alliance 2007 National Conference will take place
on April 20 – 21, 2007 at the Little Red School House and Elisabeth
Irwin High School (LREI) in New York City. We are honored to have
as our keynote speakers at the conference:
- Maya
Lin, Principal of Maya Lin Studios and the world renowned
designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
and the Civil Rights Memorial;
- Concepcion Alvar, Headmistress of Marymount School
of New York;
- Kavery
Kaul, Producer and Director of the “Long Way from Home”,
a nonfiction feature about three girls - Asian-American,
Arab-American, and African-American - in their first encounter
with diversity,
as newcomers at independent schools; and
- Frank Wu, Dean of Wayne State University Law School
and author of “Yellow: Race in America Beyond Black and White”.
The
Asian Educators Alliance 2007 National Conference is by and for API
educators. We welcome all self-identified API colleagues in independent
and public schools
and current API graduate students in the field of education. While
we appreciate and honor the support of our non-API allies, we ask
that they respect our
intentions for this space. As an alternative method of support, we
encourage our allies to help in publicizing this event to their API
colleagues.
